What is Orofacial Myology?
The four goals of orofacial myology are nasal breathing, lip seal, proper tongue posture and correct swallowing pattern.
As an Orofacial Myologist, I am trained to identify and treat disorders involving the muscles of the tongue, face and throat. Sessions include behavioral modification and oral-facial exercises to strengthen the muscles that result in myofunctional disorders. I have a series of exercises that help the patient be aware of their tongue placement and nasal breathing. As exercises progress , we work on proper swallowing. Each exercise is a building block. Orofacial Myology takes time, daily dedication and repetition to make progress and have success.
